It is true that I have a temper, although it is usually not something anyone sees, unless of course you are driving in my car with me. I'm a really, really nice guy though, other than when I'm driving. I must get better at controlling my anger...

The product of a particularly productive week, Things She'll Do, uh, I got nothing. I hope you like it.

I have no idea what this song is about. Vague yearning for something old and innocent lost superimposed over lost love would be a reasonable theory, but I'm skeptical. I like it anyhow.

I sometimes make the drive down from Somerville, MA to Brooklyn to hang with my friend Jeremy Parker, the multi-talented former frontman of Teresa's Kryptic Trout and the UK punk band Done Lying Down. The results are limited by my ability to play guitar, but occasionally we create something I'm willing to share (Jeremy may feel differently). This song is a collaboration between us. I was adlibbing the lyrics and JP provided the necessary couplet finishing rhymes I was not capable of finding on my own. We recorded for about 15 minutes and JP cobbled together this track. I hope you enjoy.

My good friend, and the best cat in the history of civilization, Porter, died last year. He had a full life. He was over 15 years old. He was sick for the last few months, and I had to make the decision of when he was no longer living a quality life. Sadly, one day it was clear, and I had to take him to the vet and have him put down. It was a very bad day. Goodbye was running through my head for a few days or a week or so before I wrote it. "I could lead you/where you will go/but I don't want to say goodbye."

This song was finished much later than its number might indicate. I wrote the lyrics after my bike accident in September, but didn't record it until December. At the moment, this is my favorite song from 2010. This is a single take with no edits. I was tempted to fiddle with it to fix a few things, but in the interest of keeping it honest, and in the spirit of the song, I let it be and tossed on some reverb.

I got the music for this from Jeremy Parker--part of the Verse Versus Chorus project--and added the vocals. The lyrics don't make any sense, but I'm not to concerned about that since some of rock's greatest tunes have nonsensical lyrics. Therefore, this is one of rock's greatest tunes.  I'm heading down to Brooklyn for a music weekend with the aforementioned Jeremy. Look for several songs from that collaboration.

So, I've been gone for a bit, sorry for the interruption. Recuperating from a bicycle accident a few months back, but still on track to finish the 52 Songs Project for 2010. This song has nothing to do with the delay, but it has the right theme, so here's A Little Time, a June-September romance song that isn't very romantic at all.

I woke up this morning (da nana na) and felt kinda lousy. Apparently, I drank a bit too much last night. I'm going to go out on a limb and recommend not drinking Jack Daniels. At all. A few ibuprofen and an omelet and I'm good as new and off to work on the next song for the 52 Songs Project. None of this has anything to do with the song Precious, but I feel a bit odd posting such small blog entries since this is a blog/podcast thing. Anyway, Precious is ostensibly about searching for meaning, love, or anything which makes you feel like you are living and working for a reason in this crazy world. I hope you enjoy it, but if you don't, there'll be another song coming soon. I promise.

Even a listener who is only vaguely familiar with my songs can tell you that I write a good deal about love lost (and sometimes love), or rather I write about lovers getting a less-than-good-deal from the experience of love. One thing all those who are lucky enough to have loved and lost can tell you is that it isn't always fun to continue having some kind of relationship with the one that got away, particularly if you weren't the one who said goodbye. This song is another in a long line of the kind which deal with this. Enjoy!
